This hand instrument is handmade in Ghana and is a popular with people of all ages.  The Asalatua is played by catching and throwing two gourds, which are connected by a cord; the sound that is created by the gourds is a powerful rhythm.  This beat can be incorporated with other instruments. The name Asalatua is the name given to the instrument by the Ga people of the Accra area in Ghana.
